The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry announced on Saturday, Jan. 28 that they have commissioned a statue in honor of Princess Diana.
At the request of the Princes, a committee has been designated to choose the sculptor and establish a fund for the statue. The committee will collaborate with Historic Royal Palaces on the statue that will be situated in Kensington Palace.
"It has been twenty years since our mother's death and the time is right to recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world with a permanent statue," the statement reads from the Princes.
Known for her charity work, Princess Diana dedicated her philanthropy with organizations such as the Leprosy Mission and the National AIDS Trust.
The Princes also want the statue to be reflective of her legacy.
"Our mother touched so many lives," the Princes acknowledge. "We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy."
Creating and installing the statue is underway, but it is uncertain when the Princess of Wales sculpture will be made public.
