Transcripts of police recordings about the robbery of Kim Kardashian West's assets has been leaked to a French newspaper. In the transcripts, the mastermind claimed her social media presence was the reason she was robbed.
In October 2016, during Paris Fashion Week, Kardashian was staying at the No Address Hotel in Paris where she was robbed of $11 million of jewelry.
According to French newspaper Le Monde, alleged mastermind Aomar Ait Khedache told investigators that by flaunting her lavish lifestyle on social media, she is to blame for having been robbed.
“Everything was given online, the jewelry was shown on the Internet, along with the fact that she didn’t wear fake jewelry,” Khedache said. He is one of the 10 people who was arrested in connection with the robbery. He also alleged, "the times she was coming to France, all you had to do was look on the Internet to find out everything, absolutely everything.”
This October 2 crime, however, wasn't the initial plan to rob the reality star of her jewelry. There was a previous scheme afoot previous to this, on another occasion that Kardashian West was in Paris. However, they were tipped off by a source saying she would be surrounded by too many people.
“It wasn’t a big armed robbery. All we needed to do was neutralize the security guard and get access to the room,” Khedache said. “Right away, I was tempted. It was a simple deal. It wasn’t a violent thing. It wasn’t a big robbery.”
Among the jewelry that was stolen was a beautiful, $4 million dollar ring. Kardashian West had boasted about it on Instagram days before it was stolen. Because the ring was so discernible, it was given to someone to keep, according to Khedache. He also claimed the rest of the stolen goods were melted down. Since the robbery, Kardashian maintained a low profile until recently resurfacing on her accounts. She has redirected her social media posts to showcase her family instead of her expensive assets while also increasing her security.
