Italian born actor, comedian and voice-over actor, Tony Rosato has died at the age of 62.
Rosato's former agent Larry Goldhar confirmed his death. According to the agent, who spoke to The Globe and Mail , an autopsy is being done. However, they suspect a heart attack to be the cause of death.
Rosato made a name for himself starring in Second City TV and Saturday Night Live as well. He is one of three actors to have appeared on both, along with Robin Duke and Martin Short. His most memorable character from SCTV was Marcello, a clumsy television chef whose show would always end in disaster.
Rosato's list of other television credits includes Street Legal, Due South, L.A. Law, Lonesome Dove, Robocop, Night Heat, and the Canadian cable movie Kissinger and Nixon. His list of voice work is quite extensive and includes two animated Super Mario Bros. movies.
Unfortunately, Rosato ran into legal trouble as he got older. In 2005, he was charged with criminally harassing his wife. He spent two years in a maximum security prison awaiting trial before being diagnosed with Capras Syndrome, a mental illness that made him believe his wife and daughter were replaced by impostors. After the diagnosis the judge ordered him to stay in a mental institution until his release in 2009.
Regardless of his troubles, former colleagues and fans shared their condolences via Twitter.
The details of his funeral have yet to be revealed.
