A Dog’s Purpose has done well in theaters, even after a controversial video from the film’s set was released.
The video was expected to severely affect the family film’s box office results but the film still came in at No. 2 during it’s opening weekend of Jan. 27, trailing behind Universal’s Split.
The controversial video, released by TMZ, shows the German Shepard star of the film, Hercules, being forced into rushing water against his will. However, cast and crew members from the film have denied ever seeing what happened in the video such as Dennis Quaid who said, “"I was there. I never saw any abuse of any animal. If there had been, I would have walked."
Despite it’s strong opening weekend, the film was not without backlash. In response to the disturbing video animal rights groups including PETA boycotted the film and as we previously reported the movie's premiere was canceled following the release of the video.
