La La Land, already the darling of awards season, was again honored over the weekend as the Director's Guild of America celebrated the best filmmakers in the business.
Director Damien Chazelle took home the night's top prize, as he was awarded "Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film." The film's stars, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling who were on hand to present their director with the honor.
Chazelle, 32, is now the youngest to ever win the award and will make history should he carry this momentum to a victory at the Oscars. The odds look to be in Chazelle's favor, since a DGA win is usually a reliable predictor of a repeat come Oscar Sunday. Many think this is due to the makeup of the Guild as similar to that of the Academy, leading to similar winners.
Chazelle bested a crowded field made up of Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”), Kenneth Lonergan (“Manchester by the Sea”), Garth Davis ("Lion") and Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival”).
The Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
