The actor who plays an FBI agent trying to put bad guys like Lucious Lyon away on Empire, has been arrested and charged with domestic battery.

People noted that law enforcement officials have said that Morocco Omari, who plays Agent Tariq Cousins, on the hit FOX show was arrested Wednesday, April 5 and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.

According to police, the arrest came after a 24-year-old woman accused the 46-year-old Chicago native of pushing her to the ground several times during an argument. The alleged incident occurred in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, the city where Empire is filmed, around 2:30 p.m. The woman, who had bruises on her neck, told authorities she was Omari's girlfriend. The actor was then arrested and later released on a personal recognizance bond.

Omari's publicist, however, denied the allegations made calling them “blatantly false” and said he is “confident” that his client “will be completely vindicated in this matter.”

The Chicago Sun Times noted that Omari appeared in front of a judge in a Cook County courtroom on Thursday, April 6, for the charge. His next scheduled court date is April 20.
