"There'll never be another Don Rickles," Kimmel said.

Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel honored the late Don Rickles with a heartfelt tribute on his show Thursday night.

Rickles, the comedy legend, died of kidney failure earlier that day in his L.A. home at the age of 90. Kimmel remembered his old friend in his opening monologue. In fact, he struggled to hold back the tears and got very emotional.

"This is not going to be our usual show tonight," Kimmel announced. "We lost someone that we and I love very much today and I'm sorry if you're hearing this right now for the first time, but Don Rickles passed away this morning."

Kimmel reminisced about their relationship and revealed how it took multiple attempts to entice the comedian onto his show over the years.

Kimmel continued, "He was 90 years old. I know it sounds crazy to say he was too young, but he was, because he was youthful and funny and sharp and generous."

He added that Rickles was "probably the greatest talk show guest of all time."

The episode also featured a montage of clips from Rickles' appearances on the show.
