Production on the TNT drama The Last Ship has been put on pause, as lead actor Eric Dane battles depression.

The 44 year-old's rep told People, “Eric asked for a break to deal with personal issues. He suffers from depression and has asked for a few weeks of downtime and the producers kindly granted that request.” His rep added that "He looks forward to returning."

The fourth season of Dane's show is set to premiere this summer and according to Variety, it has already been renewed for a fifth season.

Dane's struggles have been made public in the past, as the former Grey's Anatomy star went to rehab for an addiction to painkillers in 2011. He was also caught up in a sex tape scandal involving him with his wife and another woman in 2009.

“We’ve all made mistakes. My one regret is that I got the person I love most wrapped up in all that: Rebecca," Dane says of his wife since 2004, Rebecca Gayheart. “I never had a family and now I do. I know I’m a very lucky guy.”
