Richard Simmons' choice to step out of the spotlight the past few years has left many people curious about his health and well-being, which forced his rep to give an update on him following a recent hospital stay. Some tabloids, however, published stories about him that the fitness guru has deemed "hurtful" and now he is planning on suing over what has been written about him.
People reported that Simmons' attorneys are planning to file multi-complaint suits in Los Angeles Superior Court against RadarOnline, the National Enquirer and the publications' parent company American Media, Inc. for what they are calling "a hurtful campaign of defamations and privacy invasions.”

American Media is not backing down though saying it stands by its reporting and is willing to fight Simmons in court.
“While we have not seen Mr. Simmons’ complaint, we stand by our reporting about him, all of which was based on solid sourcing and material evidence," a spokesperson for American Media said. "Should he choose to proceed with his lawsuit, we will defend it vigorously and we look forward to the public vindication of our reports.”
As we reported, Simmons surprisingly took to Facebook when he was hospitalized for severe indigestion last month with a photo of himself to show that he is okay and thanked his fans for all their love and well wishes.
“I’m sure there are people in your life who love and care for you and would do anything to help you with the challenges you face. Just knowing you care has already made me feel better," he wrote. "Hope to see you again soon!"
