Fashion at the MTV awards can range from uber classy to totally trashy. We will never forget the denim duo of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears from the 2001 awards show. Or Tyga's screaming red ensemble from 2012.
This year was no different with some very interesting choices in wardrobe. Some were over-the-top amazing, others had us asking 'just why?'

Emma Watson, John Cena, Tracee Ellis Ross, Taraji P. Henson and even Josh Gad pulled off some amazing looks. But we expect that of them. And as much as we love them, there were a ton of other looks on the red carpet that impressed as well as distressed.
Here's our list of best and worst dressed of the night:
BEST
Mary Elizabeth Winstead pulled off what many others failed at - a simple sundress. From the deep plunge to the fringe on the hem to the embroidery on the hip the dress accentuates without overpowering and paired with classic sandals and jewelry she got this look totally right.
WORST
GiGi Gorgeous who was nominated for Best Documentary wore gold and fringe that blended in with her hair making it hard to see where she ended and the dress began. But that skin! Flawless.
BEST
Zac Efron nailed his all white ensemble, although he'd look sexy in a potato sack. Even The Rock chimed in on his Baywatch costar's look:
WORST
Cara Delevingne can make most anything look good. What landed her here was not the dress or the bald head, but the detachment and total lack of fun she seemed to have. It's MTV not Fashion Week!
BEST
Camila Cabello of Fifth Harmony made her simple, sultry look the envy of the night. From the dress to the shoes she owned less is more. Her red dress for her performance with PitBull and J. Balvin was equally enthralling.
WORST
Amy Schumer needs some wardrobe help for sure. She has freaked out before over being called plus size, insisting that she is a mere size 6, and we've seen her in a bikini so we're sure she's not huge. But even the worst stylist should be working harder to get some angles in her waist, whether it's a belt or diagonal lines, sequined pattern - just anything to give the girl a curve or three!
BEST
Shannon Purser's outfit embodies what we expect from the MTV red carpet. Fun and fresh, the Stranger Things star stood out while looking pretty chill.
WORST
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. We LOVE Chrissy Metz but this dress is so wrong on so many levels. And seeing her tweet this morning, knowing where she was on the list broke my heart.
It's just... It's too short, the ruffles on the sleeves are just a big no for anyone over 20. Her style is awesome, but last night was a miss.
BEST
Dafne Keen is the scariest, most adorable little girl ever. She rocked her outfit last night with the black jacket and silver dress. She also steamrolled Hugh Jackman on stage which was simply edible!
WORST
We're going to have to talk about ruffles again. Issa Rae chose stunning color for her dress, but all she needed was pigtails to host a children's TV show. Her style is usually spot on, which makes this an even bigger disappointment.
BEST
Zendaya wore a chartreuse gown from Zuhair Murad taking the night in the fashion department.
WORST
Out of everything we saw last night, it was Farrah Abraham that was truly offensive culturally and visually. At this point there is no excuse for the inappropriateness here.
