Leonardo DiCaprio could be taking on the role of the beloved comic book villain known as the Joker.
When DC announced that they were making a stand-alone Joker film outside of the DC Universe last week, we were all a little confused. When they followed up that announcement by saying Martin Scorsese would be a producer, we were even more confused. And now, to add even more fuel to the fire, the studio is eyeing Leonardo DiCaprio to take on the title character.
Warner Brothers has yet to approach DiCaprio with an offer — they haven’t even signed on Scorsese yet — and they, along with DiCaprio, declined to comment on the matter.

However, with Martin Scorsese’s involvement on the project there seems to be a better chance that DiCaprio would take an interest in the role — seeing how they have teamed up multiple times in the past in such films as Gangs of New York, The Aviator and The Wolf of Wall Street.
This standalone Joker film will, if the current status of the DCEU is to be believed (seeing how their upcoming slate changes so often, that may not be a guarantee), not be a part of the current DC films — which includes Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman, Suicide Squad and most recently Wonder Woman.
Jared Leto, who portrayed the character in Suicide Squad to mixed results, has also declined to comment.
Currently, the only thing we firmly know about this standalone Joker film is that Todd Philips of The Hangover trilogy has been tapped to direct, and that DC is looking to make this film a grittier tale that explores the crime underworld of Gotham.
Does this movie get you excited at all? Would you want to see Leonardo DiCaprio take on the role of the Joker, or would you rather DC just stuck to one version of the character? Let us know in the comments below.
