If we could just speed up time to March 9, that'd be great.
A new trailer for Disney’s upcoming A Wrinkle in Time adaptation has made its way on to the web.
The film is based on the popular novel of the same name — the one that you probably had to read in middle school — written by Madeleine L’Engle. Ava DuVernay (Selma, 13th) is directing the project.
This new trailer brings us even farther than the first one did into this new, colorful world that DuVernay has created. We follow Meg Murray (Storm Reid), her brother Charles (Deric McCabe) and their friend Calvin (Levi Miller) explore the universe, trying to find Meg and Charles’ missing father (Chris Pine).
To find him, however, requires the help of three celestial beings known as Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling) and Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon). Somehow or another, the kids find themselves on a mission that involves saving the world from certain doom.
The film also stars Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover, Birdman) as The Happy Medium, Michael Peña (Ant-Man, End of Watch) as Red, André Holland (Moonlight, Selma) as Principal Jenkins and Daniel MacPherson (The Shannara Chronicles) as Calvin’s father.
The screenplay for the film was written by Jennifer Lee, who has worked on multiple Disney animation projects in the past such as Frozen, Zootopia and Wreck-It Ralph.
“A Wrinkle in Time” — the novel — is also just the first book in L’Engle’s “Time Quartet” series, followed by “A Wind in the Door,” “Many Waters” and “A Swiftly Tilting Planet.” That means that if A Wrinkle in Time does well at the box office, a sequel doesn’t seem to be out of the question, although Disney has not spoken about this.
“I saw so much beauty in it, but also so much meaning,” DuVernay said to Entertainment Weekly when talking about adapting the classic novel. “[L’Engle] is a very radical thinker and she embedder her sense of what society should and could be in this piece, and a lot of it I agree with it. And through that, the story of this girl saving the world and being out there in the universe slaying the darkness, it also says a lot about slaying our own dragons.”
The trailer is a good one, to say the least. With elements of HBO’s The Leftovers along with something like Stardust or Percy Jackson, DuVerynay’s fantasy epic is one that we’re looking forward to spending time with.
A Wrinkle in Time hits theaters on March 9, 2018. Watch the trailer here and let us know if you’re excited about this movie in the comments below.
