“This is where our story ends….”
I will start tonight’s recap by saying that this was one of my favorite episodes of Gotham. It was action-packed from start to finish. The episode begins with the newly returned Riddler rescuing Martin. I’m so glad that The Riddler is back. Sampson is now running The Narrows and Leslie is thinking about revenge on Sofia. Jim and Bullock are also looking for dirt on Sofia’s control of Gotham. Sofia is public enemy number one right now.
It’s early chaos at Arkham Asylum... Bullock is looking for leads on the Falcone bookkeeper Mr. Penn. He goes to see Penguin at Arkham. It is quickly chaos as Gotham’s favorite hitman Victor Szasz and his buddy Wendall arrive on orders from Sofia to take out Penguin. This distraction causes just enough for Penguin to escape with Riddler.
Selina goes to see Bruce for help. She is happy that Bruce’s attitude has changed and he is acting normal again. She feels guilty over being at Roland Charles’ house when Ivy killed him. Bruce offers to help her. They go and retrieve the stolen items that Ivy sold. It features a pretty neat fight scene. Some foreshadowing of Bruce and Selina potentially working together in the future. Selina asks Bruce to return the stolen items. The guilt is bothering her too much. It’s nice to see Selina and Bruce on the same page again.
Penguin and Riddler go to meet up with Leslie. They all want to take out Sofia and Riddler proposes the “trojan horse plan.” They freeze Penguin and get him inside Sofia’s house. They need to recruit some muscle. Riddler goes to get Grundy but is shocked to find out that Grundy remembers that he is Butch.
Penguin grows impatient and goes looking for Sofia. Not a smart move as he runs right into Jim and Bullock. They have a common goal…to make Sofia go away. They ask Penguin to help them find out where Mr. Penn is. Penguin gives them where Mr. Penn would be. They then look to arrest him when Victor and Wendell arrive and a quick street shootout ensues. The distraction actually allows Leslie to sneak up and snag Penguin. It has quickly become who is the first one to track down Mr. Penn.
Barbara Kean is having some issues right now. She is dealing with some serious migraines. Grundy/Butch brings them Riddler. Tabitha and Butch still seem to have some unfinished business. They are going to send Riddler to Sofia as leverage to get Penguin. They are doing their part to stay in Sofia’s good graces.
Leslie and Penguin go to Mr. Freeze’s hideout to initiate their plan. Mr. Freeze agrees to help them so he can get money for his research. He freezes Penguin. The plan is on. Penguin’s frozen arrival to Sofia’s house is happening right in the middle of The Riddler’s brutal torture. Victor tells Sofia they have tracked down Mr. Penn. They are going to find Penn while she orders Riddler to be killed.
They are too late as Jim and Bullock have already found Mr. Penn. They find him at a very strange resort therapy place where the patients are dressed like babies? Very strange. He is explaining to them the connections he has to the Falcone family. They go to take Penn out of there but are ambushed by Sofia and company. Jim is shot multiple times and Bullock uses the distractions to get Penn out of danger.
Leslie arrives with revenge on her mind. Sofia is taunting Jim and shoots him again. Things are looking rough for Jim as Sofia tells Jim things could have been different. She wants Jim to beg for his life. He responds with “Go to hell…” Sofia is preparing to finish Jim off when she is shot in the stomach by Leslie. Leslie then shoots her in the head. WOW. She also looks after Jim as he is fading.
Riddler is taken to the docks where it looks like he might meet his end. He is rescued by his good buddy Penguin. The trust and their friendship looks like it is back to normal as it looks like they could regain control of Gotham.
In the aftermath of the chaos, Jim is recovering in the hospital. Jim tells Bullock he wants to confess what he has done. Bullock tells him that somehow Sofia is alive and is in a coma. Bullock also tells Jim he is not going to confess. Jim needs to be the hero that Gotham needs right now. We also see Leslie return to power in The Narrows as she returns the favor to Sampson by crushing his hand. Sweet justice.
Barbara’s migraines continue to get worse. She notices that her right hand is glowing. That’s strange. She also is having visions of Ra’s Al Ghul. Does Barbara have some kind of power? Did the Lazarus water have some effect on her?
Gotham airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. only on FOX.
