‘I’d Rather Be Me’ is the first single from the Mean Girls cast recording that comes out next month!
Mean Girls the musical is the latest adaptation by Tina Fey to hit the Broadway stage, based on the movie from 2004. When newcomer Cady Heron goes to public high school for the first time, she will find out that it is not all that it is cracked up to be. She meets the Plastics, the top dogs at her high school, and will need to play the system if she would like to get out of this alive.
The new song, which dropped Fri., April 20, 2018, features Barrett Wilbert Weed as Janis Sarkisian, the girl who befriends Cady on her first day of school. The live performance on Fallon Tonight is something to be remembered because Weed was featured, even though she is in a supporting role in the musical.

The head Plastic Regina George plays the villain well with her nasty attitude and antics.
According to USA Today, the hot moment of the adaptation comes after pages of the 'Burn Book' are passed out and a fight ensues. That's when Janis stands her ground against Cady and Regina saying, 'I'd rather be me than be with you.'
The number opens with an alternative rock vibe, and Weed’s powerhouse vocals only add to the already amazing orchestrations of the song.
"And if I eat alone from this moment on that’s just what I’ll do. Cause I’d rather be me, I’d rather be me, I’d rather be me than be with you."
The middle of the song is about Janis talking about how girls in high school behave, but she would rather be true to herself, than the way that high school girls tend to act in her opinion.
"Cause sometimes what’s meant to break you makes afraid."
The tune ends with the rest of the students joining Janis as she sings, "I don’t need their good opinions, I have plenty of opinions. Everybody has opinions but it doesn’t make them true."
The cast recording is available for preorder, with the single hit song when you pre-order on iTunes. Spotify has the new anthem as well.
