Fans are torn about revisiting The West Wing, but those against it are wrong!
The West Wing fans have a new reason for hope that a reboot may be in place thanks to a recent tweet from Josh Malina who played Will Bailey on the hit series.
For years many fans have been begging for a reboot of this award-winning show that focused on the Bartlett administration and the staff that served him, as well as the family who loved him and it just may be happening. Fingers crossed!
Malina posted a photo on Thursday morning of some friends including Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman), Janel Moloney (Donna Moss) and the creator of The West Wing Aaron Sorkin.
The West Wing aired on NBC from 1999 to 2006. Executive producers: Aaron Sorkin, Thomas Schlamme and John Wells served at the helm for the first four seasons and the show was taken over by other people. While still good, it was never quite the same without Sorkin onboard.
This show earned the Outstanding Drama Series four consecutive times from 2000-2003 and that is only the tip of the awards this influential and beloved series achieved.
The West Wing had some big names attached to it from the start such as Martin Sheen, Alan Alda, John Spencer [RIP], Jimmy Smits, Rob Lowe, Lily Tomlin and Stockard Channing. However, it also helped establish Alison Janney, Elisabeth Moss, Richard Shiff, Bradley Whitford, Timothy Busfield, Dulé Hill, Janel Moloney, Kristen Chenoweth, Joshua Malina, Mary McCormack and more. This series even had Amy Adams in a memorable guest-starring role.
The series ended with the end of the Bartlett administration and the beginning of the new Santos presidency with some White House staffers staying on, while others went on the do new things.
Some fans want to leave well enough alone, but others think the time is now for a dose of fictionalized sanity and decency in American politics.
If there is a reboot, the big question would be who will be in it? Well, as almost all of the surviving actors are still actively working in film and TV now, scheduling them may be a bit difficult.
There is a simple beginning that was set into motion in season 3, episode 14 "Hartsfield's Landing" when President Bartlett told Sam Seaborne (Lowe) that he would run for president one day. There, we have our president.
It has been 12 years, he has aged enough and should have enough experience to have enough gravitas to have won an election. As he was about to get married at the time of the series finale, so he would likely have a family, but with all the ghosts of girlfriends and flirtations past roaming Washington, it may be fun to have President Seaborne be a widower. Just a thought.
Bring back some staff and add some new people and some of Sorkin's wit and trademarked walk and talks and you have another hot show.
Thank you, Josh Malina, for giving us hope to bring back one of the best shows in the history of American television.
The West Wing reboot may be underway. Do you want it to come back?
