Uncle Drew is the first sports-comedy film released, featuring a current NBA superstar like Kyrie Irving, in some time.
The movie Uncle Drew is a film that was created based off of Kyrie Irving’s Pepsi Max advertisements that began in 2012.
It centers around Uncle Drew, the ankle-breaking, magician-like artist on the basketball court, whose team was supposed to play in the Rucker Classic back in the day, but due to some mysterious conflict, the team broke apart.
This movie comes together when Dax (Lil Rel Howery), an underappreciated coach, haunted by his own failures on the court, is in need of a team for the upcoming Rucker Classic.
Dax sees Uncle Drew schooling opponents who could be his grandson and flocks to him to see if he'll join his team, but Uncle Drew’s only condition is to get the band back together.
The film is like what would happen if the '92 Dream Team decided to play in the local rec tournament in '18 and that rec team had current day Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon and an annoyingly overconfident coach who wins every year.
Shaquille O'Neal, Reggie Miller Nate Robinson, Chris Webber and Lisa Leslie are all former NBA players featured on the team.
The movie isn’t the greatest in terms of plot formula, but the characters make the movie have excellent highlight moments.
