Austin Abrams (Paper Towns) has landed the lead role of Clay in Hulu's adaptation of Less than Zero.
Based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis, the story centers around Clay, a boy who, despite having grown up in lavish 80s Los Angeles, goes to the east coast for college. He has a complicated relationship with his girlfriend Blair, and is worried about his friend Julian.
According to Variety, this is the first TV adaptation of any of Ellis' works, though his pieces have seen film adaptations before. Less than Zero was adapted previously for the screen in 1987, with Andrew McCarthy. Other adapted examples of Ellis' work include American Psycho and The Rules of Attraction.
Ellis serves as executive producer, according to Deadline, with Craig Wright serving as writer. Fox 21 Television Studios is producing the project.
