Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been renewed for a 13-episode sixth season on NBC and the show that is based in hilarious comedic timing might be touching on a more serious subject matter in the future.
At the TCA Summer Press Tour that was put together to celebrate NBC’s pickup of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, show writers and creators like executive producer Dan Goor expressed how the show could be even better than before.
And one of the major ways the show might be doing so is by taking on the #MeToo movement.
The show has had success in the past mixing it up with major issues like sexuality with Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) in the “Game Night’ episode or the issues of racism in society under the dark cloud of police brutality with Sergeant Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) in the “Moo Moo” episode.
And in the wake of Terry Crews’ own sexual assault testimony where he shared about the abuse in front of the U.S. Senate in late June, he stated that “For me and for a lot of people out there, I call it the summer of freedom. We can now tell our truth.”
Andy Samberg, who plays the lead character, Jake Peralta and is one of the show writers, expressed that he’s interested In doing an episode of that elk, but they have to have the right spin for it to work properly.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s sixth season is set to release early 2019 with no concrete release date.
