Praise the television gods above.
It looks like season four of Fargo is officially underway, as the FX series has an exciting new addition to its cast: Chris Rock.
Yes, that Chris Rock. The man who is primarily known for his raunchy comedy and unique voices will be appearing in the Minnesota-based show….only this time, it won’t actually be set in Minnesota.
Fargo aims to move out west as this fourth season will be set in Kansas City, Montana.
“In 1950, at the end of two great American migrations — that of Southern Europeans from countries like Italy, who came to the US at the turn of the last century and settled in northern cities like New York, Chicago — and African Americans who left the south in great numbers to escape Jim Crow and moved to those same cities — you saw a collision of outsiders, all fighting for a piece of the American dream,” the description, via Entertainment Weekly, reads.
“In Kansas City, Missouri, two criminal syndicates have struck an uneasy peace. One Italian, one African American. Together they control an alternate economy — that of exploitation, graft and drugs. This too is the history of America. To cement their peace, the heads of both families have traded their eldest sons.”
Rock will be playing the head of the African American family who will, no doubt, run into all kinds of problems and moral dilemmas as the story plays out.
Apart from the very long run-on sentences, there’s a lot to digest here. It all sounds exactly like something I’d expect out of Fargo, as they’ve always been great at combining serious topics with their extravagant characters and moments of pure insanity.
Which is to say that I’m all on board here. I know that not everyone loved season three of Fargo, but I thought it was great and can’t get enough of this show. If creator Noah Hawley believes this is the right direction to take Fargo in, then I’ll gladly follow him there.
