RIP Luigi

Luigi... known to us all as the younger brother of video game legend Mario, is no longer with us.

In a new trailer for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch, the hero in green was slain by the Grim Reaper himself.

Luigi is seen entering Dracula's Castle and coming face to face with the Reaper before meeting his doom. Castlevania characters will appear in a Smash Bros. game for the very first time and what a way to put everyone on notice.

Luigi first appeared to us in 1983 in Mario Bros. and appeared in many games with his brother including Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, as well as the popular Mario Kart and Mario Party titles. Known mostly as a sidekick, he received his very own game with the 1992 release, Mario is Missing.

The most notable stand-alone title was Luigi's Mansion released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2001. The haunted themed game was GameCubes most successful launch title and sold more copies than the classic Mario 64 in their respective opening weeks. A crown I'm sure Luigi wore proudly.

March 19, 2013, started the Year of Luigi by Nintendo in an attempt to honor the legendary hero with releases throughout the year like Dr. Luigi and New Super Luigi U. and came to an end on March 19, 2014.

Now, as for the trailer itself, where the Grim Reaper swings his Scythe to Luigi's demise, one has to think what this means for the game as this is a shocking moment for any gamer to witness. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will see the return of the single-player campaign where players have to complete unique battles and specific tasks for each playable character. So my guess is that players will take control of Mario as he heads to Dracula's Castle for the first time and attempt to save his brother.

How awesome would that be!!
