Star Trek Discovery, the latest installment to the iconic franchise, has found it's new Spock.
Ethan Peck will be playing the half-human, half-Vulcan for season two of the hit show.
The 32-year-old actor has appeared in shows such as Gossip Girl, Madam Secretary, and a young Kelso in That 70s Show. Peck's other credits include films like The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Passport to Paris and Sailor.
A relatively unknown, young actor, Ethan Peck will now spring into the limelight as he takes over one the most popular and beloved characters in TV and film history. Spock has been a staple for the Star Trek franchise since the beginning, originally played by the late Leonard Nimoy. Zachary Quinto took over the role when the franchise was rebooted in 2009 for the big screen.
Spock has been a pop culture icon ever since Star Trek debuted in 1966. He has been the subject of songs and concept albums of numerous musical artists. Nimoy himself released a number of novelty songs as Spock. The Transformers character "Shockwave" was inspired by him. Even Spock's utilitarian perspective "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" was cited in a legal decision rendered by the Texas Supreme Court. Not to mention all the merchandise, Halloween costumes and numerous parodies over the decades.
Peck has big shoes to fill and the Trekkies will be watching closely at how he portrays Spock. Anytime an actor takes over the role of an iconic character, it's hard for us to not be skeptical and compare to those before. If anyone has the pedigree to live up to expectations of an icon, it would be the grandson of legendary actor, Gregory Peck.
Season 2 of Star Trek Discovery premieres January 2019 with 13 new episodes.
Until then "Live long and prosper!"
