Today, Disney released a trailer for the upcoming animated series Star Wars: Resistance, which will premiere October 7 on Disney Channel.

I won’t mince words: it looks good. We’re introduced to pilot Kazuda Xiono, recruited into the Resistance as the First Order grows in strength. This series takes place a few years before the events of The Force Awakens, evidenced by a couple of familiar faces in the trailer. We get healthy doses of Poe Dameron and the adorable droid BB-8, as well as a glimpse of the chromed-out Captain Phasma.

It looks like Resistance has plenty of high-flying hijinks in store for us as we watch X-wings run what looks like an aerial obstacle course while the pilots banter back and forth. A young woman says to her fellow pilot: “I was just wishing my competition good luck.”

Resistance comes in the wake of the recent wrap-up of Star Wars: Rebels in March of this year, which itself was a follow-up to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which ended its seventh season in 2014. Notably, Resistance has departed from the art style of its predecessors, favoring cel shading in what looks like CGI movement (think the art style of The Simpsons slapped onto the characters from The Clone Wars). It seems almost like a breath of fresh air: this is a new fight in a new time, even if it is still a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
