A live-action Little Mermaid is next on Disney’s checklist of adaptations, and Zendaya, former Disney star and current film star, has reportedly been offered the lead role.

A source close to Disney told ThatHashtagShow.com that Zendaya has been offered the role of Ariel for the live-action remake of the classic tale. For the all-important music of the adaptation, Alan Menken, the composer of the original Little Mermaid, and Lin-Manuel Miranda are set to work together to compose and reportedly add new songs. Rob Marshall is set to direct.

So far, no comment from Zendaya or Disney. While The Little Mermaid finds its cast, the next Disney remakes to hit theaters will be Dumbo and The Lion King, which premiere in March and July of 2019 respectively.
