Monstersandcritics.com reports that in a new interview, Portia DeGeneres is explaining how she first fell in love with her wife, Ellen, host of the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Portia spoke to Australian Women’s Weekly magazine to promote her autobiography, Unbearable Lightness: A Story Of Loss And Gain, and she divulges how she felt when she first met her wife.

“My knees went weak and I felt like I was shot through the heart with an arrow. I never thought I would experience that kind of feeling, being a lesbian. That overwhelming experience of seeing someone across a room and falling in love with them,” she explains.

She continues on to say that they didn’t strike up a romance at first because she wasn’t comfortable with being out in the open about her sexuality. “I was too nervous. I don’t regret it though, because clearly it wasn’t the right time for us to be together,” she said.
She adds, “We both really, really liked each other and there was definitely a lot of chemistry there, but it was a ridiculous thought for me to be closeted and terrified of being discovered, and then date the most famous lesbian in the world. It wasn’t going to happen.”
