While promoting her current project, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, in New York this week, Swedish actress Noomi Rapace discussed the upcoming U.S. remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Rapace’s gripping performance in the 2009 Swedish film adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s novel of the same name drew widespread critical acclaim, and the U.S. version is scheduled for release in December 2011.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was the first book in Larsson’s Millenium trilogy. It was followed by The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. Even if the studio gains access to the late author’s unfinished fourth book, Rapace does not see herself reprising the role of Lisbeth Salander in the future.

“I actually felt pretty strong that I am done with [Lisbeth],” she told Access Hollywood. “I did everything I could and didn’t finish the fourth book and nobody knows how much [material] there is actually. When [an American Dragon Tattoo remake was discussed], I said, ‘No I’m done. It’s up to somebody else to step in [Lisbeth’s] shoes.'”

When she was asked to provide her opinion of Columbia Pictures’ decision to cast The Social Network’s Rooney Mara as Lisbeth, Rapace said, “I think [it will be] quite interesting to see what they do. I love David Fincher. I think he’s great.”
