Now this week looks like a rare slow week for cinema releases what with the two biggest being Paranormal Activity 3 and The Three Musketeers. You don't need me to tell you what those are about right? So I thought I would do something a little different this week and talk about the most anticipated (in mine and every comic book fan's opinion) film of 2012, The Avengers! That's right people, its almost here.
The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon, is the biggest superhero film to ever hit the big screen. An agency which goes by the name S.H.I.E.L.D recruits the most powerful team ever assembled, their job is to protect the world against an extraterrestrial invasion.
This legendary team includes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). What an incredible collection of superheroes and actors. This dream team will be facing the super-villain Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Thor's brother, who has a slightly more evil side to him than his older sibling. But he of course can not stand up to the combined might of The Avengers alone, so it would seem he has recruited some friends who together hope to defeat The Avengers and see the earth destroyed.
Now I don't know about you but I think director Joss Whedon is one of the luckiest directors of all time. To be working on such an iconic and anticipated movie with some excellent class-A actors screams a chance of a life time for this director. But along with this being a chance of a lifetime comes the immense pressure he must be under to make this film the success it deserves and is expected to be. As we know, the comic book community is a very critical one, seeing their beloved characters come to life on the big screen is something they anticipate with trepidation. Nobody wants to see their favourite characters ruined by a rushed production which has happened in the past.
I have been waiting for this film ever since the end of Iron Man, because as most of you should know by now, Marvel rewards people who have the patience to sit through the credits at the end of their movies, with a short clip building up to their grand finale of The Avengers movie. I hope with every fibre in my body that this film is not a massive let down, which I don't think it will be, but there is always a part of me saying "what if it is?"
The first official trailer has been released by Marvel recently and I have it here for you to feast your eyes on. I must say it looks promising, without giving away any of the plot (which is slightly frustrating) but shows us the assembled team and some friendly banter being passed around alongside some high-octane action scenes. Take a look and see what you think.
