Harry Carey Jr., who starred in many of John Ford's Westerns, died of natural causes at the age of 91 in Santa Barbara, California on Thursday.
Carey was the son of Harry Carey and actress Olive Carey, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He appeared in roughly 100 movies as well as many television shows. From the 1950s through the '80s, he became known as one of Hollywood's most prolific character actors.
Carey was also in many films with John Wayne including She Wore a Yellow Ribbon in 1949, Rio Grande in 1950 and The Searchers in 1956. He appeared in 11 of Ford's films and 50 Westerns all together.
Other popular films that the actor has appeared in include Back to the Future Part III, Tombstone, Wyatt Earp: Return to Tombstone and The Sunchaser.
Company of Heroes: My Life as an Actor in the John Ford Stock Company, Carey's memoir, was published in 1994, reports CBS News.
Carey is survived by his wife, son, two daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
