The much anticipated film Mama won the Friday box office by producing $10 million in ticket sales, a promising debut for the new horror film.

The movie was produced by Guillermo del Toro, who has made other such movies such as Pan's Labyrinth and Don't be Afraid of the Dark. Industry analysts have estimated that the film will bring in an additional $20-$25 million by the end of the weekend. The debut mark was far above what other movies brought in on Friday, the runner up being Zero Dark Thirty, which brought in $4.6 million. Deadbolt

Del Toro comments that he was hyper-active after the delays of the movie The Hobbit. The 48-year-old has had a very busy agenda over the year and after the success of Rise of the Guardians, immediately began moving into other projects. Del Toro grew attached to Mama stating, “I felt an immediate kinship to the theme, and the story, and to Andres,” National Post

This movie is just one of many that the director has on his upcoming (and rather successful) agenda of movies.
