After recently breaking up with on-again and off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez performed Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" during the third annual UNICEF charity concert in New York City on Saturday night.

"I've been through a lot the past few months. It's been weird and sad and cool. This song definitely speaks to me," Gomez said before singing an acoustic version of Timberlake's "Cry Me a River," as quoted by Us Weekly.

The 20-year-old's performance of the song comes just shortly after Bieber performed his own rendition of "Cry Me a River" back in November following their first split, reports E! News.

Gomez sang other breakup songs as well as her best friend Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble." Swift recently went through a breakup with One Direction's Harry Styles.

"Taylor is one of the most inspirational, positive, good-hearted people I know. I met her when she was 18...it was absolutely incredible to see someone so successful and so humble. I think she's been a big part of me staying who I am, too," Gomez said.

Before covering Swift's song she told the crowd, "It's by my best friend in the entire world and if anybody has felt anything painful to their heart, they know who this girl is. Sing along if you know it."

Gomez's onscreen roles along with her music are becoming a reflection of the singer growing up. She has her risque role in the upcoming movie Spring Breakers and as for her new album, Gomez revealed, "I'm a little bit more mouthy [now]. I'm a little bit older. I've got a little more sass. [I'm] telling a lot more, too."
