Get ready to see director Alexander Payne a lot during this year’s Oscar season. The acclaimed Sideways and The Descendants director is working on Nebraska, a father-son road comedy that has been scheduled for a November release.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the black & white comedy with Saturday Night Live’s Will Forte and acting veteran Bruce Dern will have a limited release from Paramount on Nov. 22. That’s the same day as Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be released, but the two are targeted towards very different audiences.
IndieWire reports that the film centers on a father (Dern), who gets stuck going from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son (Forte) after he wins a Publisher’s Clearing House prize.
The film is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Payne’s last film, the George Clooney-starring The Descendants, was nominated for Best Picture and won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also won the same award for Sideways.
