While Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood was in New York this weekend to talk about film with director Darren Aronofsky, the tabloids continued to focus on his wife, Dina Ruiz. She reportedly entered rehab last week for depression and anxiety.
Eastwood and Aronofsky chatted about their industry after Eastwood Directs: The Untold Story, a documentary about his career as director, was screened, notes Rolling Stone. The film features a collection of Hollywood stars and producers talking about Eastwood’s career, which has included two Best Picture winners, Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby.
While Eastwood is 82, he said that he has no plans to stop directing. “It would be great to be 105 and still making films,” Eastwood said with a chuckle, notes the Associated Press. He called that “the ultimate optimism.”
The J. Edgar director also discussed what a director’s role is. "I know a lot of people fell in love with the auteur theory, but you’re merely a platoon captain,” he explained. “If somebody does something to enhance the overall project, you have to be smart enough to grab it. If they are doing something to bring down the project you have to be smart enough to understand that and go back into the drawing board.”
Eastwood’s discussion came at a difficult time in his private life. On Friday, news broke that his wife has entered a rehab facility in Arizona. Sources for TMZ say that the marriage is in trouble and that Dina once contemplated divorce. Eastwood is still trying to save the marriage, the site notes.
