Abigail Fisher, a white student who was denied admission to the University of Texas at Austin, brought a lawsuit against the university for denying her admission based on race. The case has made its way to the Supreme Court with a possibility that affirmative action's legality in regard to college admissions could be changed as soon as tomorrow.

According to Reuters, the court may reveal their findings tomorrow. A decree against affirmative action in Texas, according to the source, could spark a new initiative to undo the current practice of considering a student's race in the admissions process.

Conversely, Bloomberg reports that since the Supreme Court recently picked up a case regarding affirmative action in Michigan, it seems that a decision will not be so soon. Usually, when the court takes on similar cases, they make their decree collectively. But that means it could be months before a decision is published.

As Business Insider reports, advocates for affirmative action cite the importance of diversity at places of higher learning. Detractors cite that it is unfair practice to accept equal or lower qualified students based on race.
