The first four months of 2013 has brought many new singles to the airwaves. This spring, there have been a number of new songs for us to stream through our speakers and sing along to. Selena Gomez is putting out music, as she is getting ready to release her debut album this summer. Fall Out Boy and Justin Timberlake are back on the music scene, putting out new material after a hiatus. PSY became a sensation with his hit “Gangnam Style,” and is looking to gain the same popularity from his newest single. There have been a lot of successful collaborations such as Snoop Dogg, who is now Snoop Lion, collaborating with Miley Cyrus, and P!nk teaming up with Nate Ruess from fun. to create a hit single. Even more artists are set to release more new music in the upcoming months, giving us something to look forward to. Here is a list of ten of the top songs this spring:
10. Boys ‘Round Here- Blake Shelton featuring Pistol Annies
“Boys ‘Round Here” is Blake Shelton’s second single from Based on a True Story, his seventh studio album. Pistol Annies are featured on the song. They are a female country group consisting of Miranda Lambert, who is Blake Shelton’s wife, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley. The song, which is a celebration of Southern life, debuted on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs list at #6.
9. Brave Sara Bareilles
“Brave” by Sara Bareilles is a song to look out for this spring. The song was released on iTunes on April 24, and will appear on her album The Blessed Unrest on July 16. The lyric video for the song was released on April 17. Bareilles plans to embark on an 18-city world tour to promote the album.
8. Ashtrays & Heartbreaks- Snoop Lion (Dogg) Miley Cyrus
“Ashtrays & Heartbreaks” is the lead single on Snoop Lion’s (formerly known as Snoop Dogg) twelfth studio album, Reincarnated. The song that features Miley Cyrus, will be hitting the airwaves officially on May 28. It was released on April 4 as a digital download.
7. My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up) – Fall Out Boy
“My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)” by Fall Out Boy was released in February, and is still going strong this spring. The song hit #2 on the U.S Rock Songs (Billboard) chart, and #2 on iTunes in its first week of sales. Fall Out Boy has been on an indefinite hiatus since 2009. Their fifth studio album, Save Rock and Roll was released on April 16, with “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)” being the lead single. The album was a success, debuting #1 in 27 countries, including the U.S.
6. Get Lucky- Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers
“Get Lucky” is the lead single from Daft Punk’s fourth studio album, Random Access Memories. The song was released on April 19, and has received positive reviews from critics. It sold over 50,000 copies in the UK, just 48 hours after its release. In the United States, the song charted at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100, making “Get Lucky” their highest charting single in the US. Pharrell has said that the lyrics of the track isn’t just about sex, but rather about being lucky enough to find chemistry with someone.
5. Come & Get It- Selena Gomez
“Come & Get” It by Selena Gomez was released earlier this month. On April 14, she performed the song for the first time at the MTV Movie Awards. The song will appear on Gomez’s upcoming debut solo album. The track received favorable reviews by critics.
4. No New Friends- DJ Khaled featuring Drake, Lil Wayne, and Rick Ross
“No New Friends” is the lead single from DJ Khaled’s upcoming seventh Studio album, Suffering from Success. “No New Friends” featuring Drake, Lil Wayne, and Rick Ross, was released on April 15, and hit iTunes on April 19. A short film about the song was released in anticipation of the single.
3. Mirrors- Justin Timberlake
Although “Mirrors” by Justin Timberlake was released just before the spring, it is a big single of the season, gaining popularity. The song frequents the airwaves, and peaked at #7 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100 chart, and #1 in the United Kingdom. The song received mostly positive reviews from critics.
2. Gentleman- PSY
“Gentleman” is PSY’s follow-up to his hit single, “Gangnam Style.” The song, and the dance that goes with it, was performed for the first time at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on April 13. Although whether it will ever surpass the popularity of “Gangnam Style,” the video has set a number of YouTube records, having more than 231 million views.
1. Just Give Me a Reason- P!nk featuring Nate Ruess
“Just Give Me a Reason,” by P!nk, which previously appeared on our list Top songs of 2013 (so far), is still going strong, becoming even more successful. The track, which is from P!nk’s sixth studio album, The Truth About Love, is currently #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the top single on iTunes. The song has sold over a million copies in the US, and is also an international success, becoming one of this spring's hottest songs.
