Iron Man 3 hasn’t even opened in theaters in North America and it’s already passed the $300 million worldwide. The film is setting records around the world, even breaking the one-day box office record in China.
China got a special cut of Iron Man 3 and it looks like the gamble has paid off for Disney and Marvel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film made an estimated $21.5 million in one day. That beats the previous one-day record held by Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which debuted to $17 million.
Tuesday’s May Day holiday was huge for the film. The Wrap reports that it made $65 million around the world on that day alone. Its overall international total is at $307 million already, meaning that it is just $5 million away from Iron Man 2’s entire international run in 2010.
So far, the film is dominating in Korea, where it has grossed $27.6 million so far. It’s made $26.8 million in Mexico and the U.K. each and $22.6 million in France.
American audiences will finally get to see the film tonight and its predicted to open at $150 million.
