Aside from unveiling its fall slate, ABC had several topics to cover, such as the cancellation of Happy Endings and Body Of Proof, plus the decision to get rid of the Dancing with the Stars results show.
DWTS will still air a two-hour episode on Mondays, but the hour-long results show on Tuesday has been pulled, leaving room for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Entertainment Weekly notes that DWTS current season is averaging 11 percent fewer viewers than last season and the 18-49 rating is down 17 percent on average.
“It doesn’t get more aggressive than that,” ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee explained to the press. “We want to focus (DWTS) in by taking the results show and building it into the two-hour block on Mondays to really drive viewership. We had very, very strong development this year so this allowed us to put S.H.I.E.L.D. on Tuesdays, which we think is a perfect place for that show.”
Lee didn’t explain how the results would be revealed during the performance episodes, only saying “There are a number of great ideas.”
According to Deadline, Lee also talked about Happy Endings and Body of Proof, two shows that got cancelled. “We found Happy Endings was too narrow but I loved the show, I think it was absolutely on brand,” Lee said about the ensemble comedy, adding that new shows Mixology and Super Fun Night are “much broader.”
When it comes to Body of Proof, Lee said he liked star Dana Delany and would like to see the show live on at another network.
