Tim Lambesis, member of the metal band As I Lay Dying, was arrested for allegedly attempting to hire someone to kill his estranged wife. The lead singer and co-founder of the band sought out an undercover detective to murder Meggan Lambesis.
According to Billboard, police arrested the singer in Oceanside, California on Tuesday with charges of solicitation of another to commit murder while they continue to investigate the case.
Police knew that Lambesis was looking for someone who he could hire to murder his wife and brought in an undercover detective to investigate further, reports Reuters.
NBC informs that Lambesis’ wife, Meggan, filed for divorce last September. Lambesis has three children that he adopted from Ethiopia.
Neither the band nor Metal Blade, their record, have been available for comment. The Vista Detention Facility currently holds Lambesis in custody.
Although Lambesis and the rest of the band claim to be highly Christian, FM 94/9 contributer Tim Pyles stated, “He’s not the idealistic young Christian kid he once was, apparently.” He continued, “I’m bummed. There’s a lot of people who look up to him. He’s just broken a lot of hearts if it’s true.”
As I Lay Dying produced their sixth album, Awakened, last year. The group was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 for Best Metal Performance with the song “Nothing Left.” Formed in San Diego over ten years ago, the band is set to tour with Killsweitch Engage starting May 30.
