Inherent Vice has gained Oscar winning actor Benico del Toro. He will join Joaquin phoenix in P. T. Anderson’s next film.

According to Indie Wire’s The Playlist, the film is based on the Thomas Pynchon novel of the same title. The film has also started filming this month. It will mark Anderson’s first film with Warner Bros.

Inherent Vice is a neo-noir comedy that is set in 1970s Los Angeles. The film will follow Doc Sportello (played by Joaquin Phoenix). Sportello is a weed smoking private detective who is investigating the case of a kidnapped girl. This lady happens to be one of his ex-girlfriends. He will be drawn into a web of deceit. The film’s cast of characters includes surfers, hustlers, dopers and rockers, a murderous loan shark, and a tenor sax player working undercover and a whole lot more where that came from, reports Slash Film.

Benico del Toro has been cast as Sportello’s attorney. However, he is not a real criminal lawyer. This character del Toro will play will serve as a confidant of sorts.

The film will be released in 2014 by Warner Bros.
