Blake Shelton and NBC’s benefit concert to help those affected in the May 20 Oklahoma tornado raised more than $6 million in pledges and ticket sales.
According to The Associated Press a spokeswomen for the United Way of Central Oklahoma reported the figures Thursday after the “Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert.”
The concert was sold out with 14,000 fans USA Today reported. Performers included Ada, Oklahoma native Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Usher, Reba McEntire, Vince Grill, Rascal Flatts, Luke Bryan, Daruis Rucker, and One Republic’s Ryan Tedder.
One of the moving moments was made by Gill who said, “It’s sure good to be home. I’d like to do this song for the 24 people that didn’t make it.”
To donate viewers could text or call in or via the organization’s Facebook page. Proceeds go the United Way of Central Oklahoma and will distribute funding to agencies helping people affected by the tornado.
“Everyone has their way to help, and mine as an entertainer is to perform to help raise money and awareness for this tragedy,” Shelton said in a statement.
