Angelina Jolie’s partner Brad Pitt is speaking out following Jolie’s decision to go public about her preventative double mastectomy, calling his fiancé “heroic.”
Jolie revealed the news of her double mastectomy in an oped for The New York Times entitled ”My Medical Choice.” The Salt actress explains that she was faced with an 87% chance of developing breast cancer and a 50% chance of developing ovarian cancer due to a “faulty” gene known as BRCA1.
Jolie’s fiancé and longtime partner Pitt is opening up about the operations and her decision to potentially eliminate any chance of getting the cancer which took the life of Jolie’s mother in 2007.
“Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic. I thank our medical team for their care and focus,” Pitt told Evening Standard.
"All I want for is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family.”
Jolie explained that she underwent three months of medical procedures and is currently on the mend. She now only has a 5% risk of developing the cancers.
