Eventually, Bradley Cooper was going to have to realize that he can’t be everywhere and one project he signed up for was probably going to be a victim of his packed schedule. Unfortunately for Natalie Portman, that victim is Jane Got A Gun, the troubled Western that has lost a director and leading men.
Last month, Cooper agreed to replace Jude Law, who left in March after director Lynne Ramsay was replaced by Gavin O’Connor (Warrior). Law was actually a replacement for Michael Fassbender, so now the production is on its third search for a villain.
The rest of the cast still attached to the project includes Portman, Joel Edgerton and Noah Emmerich. The plot centers on a woman (Portman) who has to defend her farm after a gang (that would have been led by Cooper) comes to kill her husband.
Deadline first reported Wednesday afternoon that Cooper dropped out and the Hangover Part III actor later sent out a statement confirming the news.
“Regretfully, due to date conflicts between the film I am currently shooting for David O Russell and Jane Got A Gun, I am unable to join Natalie, Joel, Noah and Gavin on this truly exciting project. I was really looking forward to being a part of it and hope to work with each and every one in the future,” Cooper said.
While Deadline reports that the shortlist for actors to replace Cooper includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hiddleston, The Hollywood Reporter said that Gyllenhaal is out.
Cooper’s packed schedule includes Russell’s American Hustle, which he was filming in Boston. He’s also going to have to go on a world media tour for The Hangover Part III this summer.
