Charles Ramsey was quickly hailed as a hero for helping to rescue the three Cleveland women who were held captive for nearly a decade. He became an Internet sensation thanks to his incredible interview with a local station. Now, he’s never going to have to pay for a hamburger again.
Earlier this month, Ramsey helped Amanda Berry escape from the home where she, Georgina "Gina" DeJesus and Michelle Knight were being held. A toddler was also at the home, believed to be Berry’s child. Ariel Castro has been charged with rape and kidnapping and it was since reported that Castro was the father of Berry’s child.
During his interview with WEWS, Ramsey said that he had been eating a Big Mac when he heard Berry’s calls for help. McDonald’s actually sent out a tweet thanking Ramsey for his help and telling him they would contact him.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported on Wednesday that several restaurants around the city pledged to give Ramsey a free burger whenever he walks in.
Hodges co-owner Chris Hodgson told the Plain Dealer that they had named a burger the Ramsey Burger to honor Ramsey, who works at the restaurant. “It's an 8-ounce burger of Certified Angus Beef, with a secret sauce,” Hodgson said, notign that it is permanently on the menu now.
“We want to honor our local hero with local food,” Scott Kuhn of Driftwood Restaurant Group added. “He stopped his meal midway through to help those women. We're now making sure he has other opportunities to go out and fully enjoy his burger.”
