Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith has released a statement following news of the death of Kriss Kross member Chris Kelly.
Smith has since remained silent after news broke of Kelly’s death. The 34-year-old “Jump” singer was found unresponsive Wednesday afternoon in his home of what is being called a possible drug overdose. He was pronounced dead at an Atlanta hospital later that evening.
According to Contact Music, Smith has released a statement saying, “Chris Kelly was my Best Friend. He was like a brother. I love him and will miss him dearly.”
He continues, "Our friendship began as little boys in first grade. We grew up together. It was a blessing to achieve the success, travel the world and entertain Kris Kross fans all around the world (sic) with my best friend. It is what we wanted to do and what brought us happiness. I will always cherish the memories of the C-Connection. Kris Kross forever."
Smith and Kelly became famous in the early 1990’s after Jermaine Dupri discovered the two at an Atlanta Mall. Their most notable hit is “Jump.” The two are also known for rap songs, “Warm It Up,” “I Missed the Bus,” and “Alright.”
