Clint Eastwood was born May 31, 1930 in San Francisco, California. He entered the army in his 20s and was told by peers he should try and be an actor. After he left the Army he moved out to Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles he got his big break in the TV show Rawhide. In 1964 he accepted his first movie role in the film, A Fistful of Dollars. Afterward he was in For a Few Dollars More in 1965 and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in 1966. He acted in many other films afterward and eventual became a director in 1971 with his first film Play Misty for Me.
Since then Eastwood has directed 32 or so movies and cemented his place in history as an icon. Clint Eastwood has sustained a career with his multifaceted abilities that has forever marked Hollywood and American culture. Clint Eastwood told Fox News that, "it would be great to be 105 and still making films."
He also commented to Fox News that he prefers to start a take by saying, "Go when you're ready," instead of saying "Action!" He remarked regarding this, that action is too harsh and negative. He also mentioned that in order to be a director, "you have to have a criminal mentality to be a film director."
Eastwood has received the American Film Institute Life Achievement , the French Legion of Honor, The Kennedy Center Honors, Irving G. Thalberg Award, Academy Award for Best Director and named commander of the French Legion of honor. Most recently he was a guest at the Republican National Convention. He gave a speech and acted out a bit with an empty chair which had and invisible Obama in it. The stunt caught him a lot of media attention.
Whatever his political leanings, Eastwood is an American Icon and more so an International icon. He has changed acting and film making for years to come, surely leaving an unmovable mark in history.
