A CSX Corp freight train derailed and exploded near Rosedale, Md. on Tuesday afternoon, damaging surrounding buildings and closing U.S. Route 40.

Authorities have confirmed that the train collided with a commercial truck and veered off the tracks, according to the Baltimore Sun. About 15 train cars derailed shortly after 2 p.m.

The truck’s driver was safely removed from the vehicle and sent to a Baltimore shock trauma center in stable, though serious, condition.

There were two CSX workers on the train who were unhurt, according to Reuters.

CSX has confirmed that at least one of the cars contained sodium chlorate, an oxidizer used in industrial processes. It is categorized by the U.S. Department of Transportation as a hazardous chemical.

The train, which had 45 cars, also contained materials such as lumber and printing paper.

People in the area have been advised to leave a 20-block area, and those who must stay behind have been urged to keep their windows closed and air conditioners off.

Jason Digman, 40, was returning home from work when he was turned away by authorities.

"Second since I've lived here over the last 13 years," Digman said, recalling another train derailment about 8 years ago. "My neighbor said windows are busted."
