French duo Daft Punk’s highly anticipated Random Access Memories exploded onto the Billboard 200 album chart this week. The album earned the second biggest debut sales week for 2013 after Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience.
Random Access Memories sold 339,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan numbers, reports Billboard. The album’s total included 221,000 copies sold through digital downloads, the second-biggest digital debut behind Timberlake. His album sold 452,000 copies online in its first week.
As we reported yesterday, Random Access Memories is also enjoying success on streaming services, breaking the Spotify record for most streams in a week. The album’s lead single, “Get Lucky” with Pharrell Williams, had broken the record for most streams in 24 hours when it was released in April.
Debuts made up most of the Top 5 this week. Former Hootie & The Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker’s latest release, True Believers, debuted at No. 2 with 83,000 copies. It also topped the Top Country Albums chart, his third straight No. 1 on that chart.
The National’s Trouble Will Find debuted at No. 3 with 75,000 copies, the best sales week in the band’s history. Excuse My FRench by French Montana came in at No. 4 with 56,000 copies. The Great Gatsby soundtrack slid to No. 5 with 54,000 copies sold this past week.
The rest of the Top 10 included Thirty Seconds to Mars' Love Lust Faith + Dreams (53,000); Vampire Weekend's Modern Vampires of the City (48,000); George Strait’s Love is Everything (43,000); The 20/20 Experience (42,000) and Golden by Lady Antebellum (34,000).
“Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton continues to hold the Digital Songs chart, selling 212,000 downloads this week.
