Desiree Hartsock, who failed to capture Sean Lowe’s heart in The Bachelor earlier this year, is the star of The Bachelorette. The new season of the dating show premieres on ABC tonight with a two-hour episode.

To get set for the new season, the 26-year-old Colorado native and bridal stylist, spoke with The Associated Press on trying to keep the show’s secrets from leaking. “Ironically, I'm kind of a private person anyway, so my friends know not to ask,” she said recently.

Her family knows that it’s not a good idea to ask her for secrets, since she kept a tight lip during the previous season. “I think after all the questions they asked last season, they got an idea that I can't talk about it and it's best that they don't ask,” she said. “They just let me be and I'm excited to talk about it once it's all over.”

On Friday, she spoke with Ryan Seacrest and admitted that the shows do have “double standards.”

“I do think that being a girl you’re judged a little bit differently, but I don’t get it,” she explained. “I try to take each and every relationship completely separate so when you’re dating someone you have to kiss to see if there’s going to be a connection. That’s where it’s tricky.”

As for why she decided to come back, she told Seacrest, “I wanted to come back because I know from first-hand experience the feelings are very real and you really can form a relationship from it.” She continued, “Throughout this season you’ll see I really wanted to make sure I was going to be the right person for them, as well, because I was really aware of that. I made sure if I’m not going to be the right person for you, let me know. It’s always a two-way street.”

Hartsock was introduced as the new Bachelorette in March. A day later, Lowe, who picked Catherine Giudici, said that he approved of ABC’s decision to help Hartsock find love.
