The Ender's Game movie is set for release in November of this year, and last week's trailer started some good buzz. But fans of Superman comics are already familiar with the possible controversy brewing with the upcoming film. Orson Scott Card, the author of the acclaimed novel which the movie is based on, is a vocal opponent to gay rights.
As reported by Salon, Card has a long history of anti-homosexual rhetoric. In 2004, he pinned a majority of homosexuality as a result of child abuse. His professed feelings against gays have only increased since.
In 2008, in an article published by Desert News, Card belittled the idea of gay marriage. He especially dismayed at the state of a government which allowed homosexual marriage, even going so far as to promise action against such a government.
Word and Film reports that Card was hired by DC to write a Superman miniseries last year, but gay rights advocates were outraged and the book has yet to come to fruition. A campaign entitled Skip Ender's Game is encouraging the same outcry against the upcoming film. Picketing may even be a possibility during the movie's release.
