A giant rubber duck made thousands in Hong Kong smile, providing a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the city’s usual Victoria Harbor activities.

CNN reports that the inflatable rubber duck comes from the mind of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, whose work has been an obsession for the Hong Kong media over the past two weeks.

“I've wanted to come for years -- and my duck made it here before me!” Hofman commented. “Hong Kong has been changed forever.”

The duck is 54 feet tall and has visited cities around the world. Hofman’s creation has been seen in Osaka, Sydney, Sao Paulo and Amsterdam. It will be in Hong Kong until June 9. Yesterday’s arrival was perfectly timed to make a grey, cloudy day a little brighter for the people in Hong Kong.

According to The New York Daily News, the rubber duck will finally reach the U.S. after the Hong Kong visit. However, Hofman is keeping the location a secret until just a week before it arrives.

So, if you see a giant rubber duck, your city’s harbor has not turned into Ernie’s bathtub. It’s just Hofman’s unique creation.

“I see it as an adult thing. It makes you feel young again. It refers to your childhood when there was no stress or economic pressure, no worry about having to pay the rent,” the artist told CNN. “If it makes you smile, then that's OK, but maybe it makes you cry because of the urban environment. I make work not to give answers but to question things.”
