Harry Connick Jr., who appeared on American Idol last night to perform, said that he was asked if he was interested in joining the show as a judge for next season.

While speaking with E! News, Connick Jr. said that It's a fun show. It's been talked about before, who knows what'll happen in the future...What I've done thus far on the show has been really fun, so I've had a great time.”

The singer said that he was asked if he was “interested” in the gig. He said about judging, “I think you need to be completely honest, and I think you need to be diplomatic. I think there's no reason to be mean, but it is called being a 'judge.' You have to judge. That's what you do.”

Connick Jr. joked that it would take a $600 million check to get him to join, but he does had one problem: a tour. “I'm going on tour this year so, like, when would I do it? It's that kind of thing,” he said.

Idol’s current 12th season has been a roller coaster, with the ratings going up at one point, but since then, they have been on a free fall. Yesterday’s episode reached a new series low. There was also a report last month that producers were actually considering changing the judging panel during the season, getting Jennifer Lopez to replace Mariah Carey. This rumor was denied by the show, but Lopez was reportedly being brought in to perform on the finale.
