Police in Houston shut down a guerrilla screening of Kanye West’s “New Slaves” projection last night.
West’s fans gathered outside of Houston’s Rothko Chapel awaiting the projection of West’s face rapping the lyrics of his recently released track, but were disappointed when the event never began.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the Houston Police arrived at the scene, found the waiting crowd and “pulled several cars onto the grass, flashed lights and sirens and demanded everyone leave or be arrested for trespassing.”
Fans in the other announced Houston locations, the Central Library and the Bush Memorial, had similar luck. None of the Houston screenings were completed.
West debuted "New Slaves" in similar guerrilla fashion last week with 66 projections on the facades of buildings in cities across the world. The screenings, announced via Kanye's website , serve as part of a creative marketing plan to drum up buzz for Yeezus, Kanye's next album, which has an expected release date of June 18.
